How to use this calculator

Adjust the inputs to your own scenario, then review the result alongside the assumptions below. The $ symbol is a currency label; the tool does not convert exchange rates.

Worked example

For 20 trades at $10,000 average position value, $1 commission per side, 0.1% fees per side, and 0.05% slippage per side, estimated costs are $640. A $2,000 gross profit becomes $1,360 net.

The formula

Total costs = trades × 2 × (fixed commission + average position value × (fee % + slippage %)). Net P/L = gross P/L − total costs.

What the result means

The break-even move shows the average favorable price move per round trip needed just to cover the modeled costs. Frequent trading can make even small per-side costs add up.

Assumptions and limitations

Uses the same average notional on the entry and exit of every trade. Actual exit notional, fee schedules, spreads, and fills vary. Include spread impact in slippage rather than counting it twice. Taxes, borrowing, financing, and market impact are not included. Do not subtract costs already included in your gross P/L.

Common questions

Does commission-free mean cost-free?

No. Spread, slippage, and other charges can still affect returns.

Are these my broker’s actual fees?

No. Enter your own estimates or fee schedule. The calculator does not fetch broker pricing.
