Annualized return (CAGR) is an equivalent yearly rate, not each year’s actual return. Results cover different periods and assumptions; historical performance does not predict future results.

Before you start
What can I backtest?
The builder supports one stock at a time using daily bars, long or short positions, and supported rules based on EMA, SMA, RSI, MACD, price, and volume. You can add targets, stops, trailing stops, holding limits, dates, fees, and slippage. It does not reproduce options, intraday execution, multi-stock portfolios, or news-based rules.
What historical data does the tester use?
The tester uses daily stock price files supplied to CandleChasers. Choose a symbol to see its available dates and daily sessions. Coverage varies by stock. Each report states its testing period and assumptions.
Are these results real trades or predictions?
Backtests and games use historical data and hypothetical calculations. They are not live trading results or predictions. Daily bars limit execution detail, costs depend on your inputs, and past results do not establish future performance.
Can I change the starting capital and trading costs?
Yes. Set starting capital in the first builder step. Dates, fees, and slippage can be adjusted before you review and confirm the test.
Do I need an account to play the games?
No. Game XP, streaks, and completed rounds are saved in your browser on this device. Clearing browser storage can remove your record, and progress does not automatically sync between devices.
Where should I begin?
Try an editable starter strategy above, find a beginner guide in Trading Education, or play a chart game. You can inspect saved backtests and use calculators to explore the numbers behind a scenario.
