Video: Learn 97% of How to Read Any Chart in 8 Mins

The Big Idea
TradeGenius demonstrates a staged decision process on a 15-minute gold chart. A long-term line sets direction, a short-term line supplies a fresh signal, and an oscillator checks whether the proposed direction has sufficient momentum under its classification.
Agreement alone is not enough: when the oscillator is neutral, both directions are skipped. The title’s “97%” is not a measured chart-reading accuracy rate established by the transcript.
If You Remember Only One Thing
Separate a directional state from a fresh entry event. Two lines already pointing upward do not necessarily create a new buy trigger.
60-Second Summary
- Price above a line is interpreted as bullish; below is bearish.
- A fresh short-term segment supplies the proposed trade event.
- The short-term direction must agree with the long-term bias.
- Green oscillator readings above +100 permit bullish candidates.
- Red readings below −100 permit bearish candidates.
- White readings between the boundaries permit neither.
- The creator describes swing-based protection and a 2R target.
Bias, Trigger and Permission
| Stage | Question | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Bias | What direction does the long-term line indicate? | Establish the permitted side. |
| Trigger | Has a fresh short-term signal appeared in that direction? | Continue only when directions agree. |
| Momentum | Does the oscillator support the same side? | Reject neutral or opposing readings. |
The oscillator does not need to be checked when the first two stages disagree. This simplifies the workflow without making the indicators independent pieces of evidence: all may be derived from the same underlying prices.
Why Chop Creates Too Many Signals
A price-reactive line can change direction repeatedly when price crosses back and forth. Those transitions remain genuine indicator events, but frequent reversals and execution costs can make them poor trend-following opportunities.
The oscillator is intended to restrict that activity. Its neutral classification does not prove that the market has no directional movement; it identifies readings the chosen tool excludes. Likewise, directional readings can lag and can persist through losing trades.
The Named Tools and Stated Settings
The signal tool is transcribed as Supertrend MTF Heikin Ashi, with its MTF method set to Auto. The Range Oscillator settings are minimum range length 200, range-width multiplier 3.5, heat levels 2 and minimum touches per level 1.
Those settings do not supply the scripts’ authors, full formulas, Supertrend parameters or Auto timeframe mapping. Verify the exact versions before configuring a chart. Do not substitute another script with a similar title and describe it as identical.
Heikin Ashi values are synthetic. If synthetic candles contribute to a signal, distinguish that calculation from actual market prices used for order execution. Also inspect higher-time-frame behavior: an unfinished higher-time-frame reading can change before its close.
Stops and 2R Targets
The source places long protection near a recent swing low and short protection near a recent swing high. The swing-selection rule and buffer are not fully defined.
For an independent long example, entry at 2,500 and stop at 2,495 create 5 price units of planned risk. A 2R target is 2,510 before costs. The monetary risk depends on the specific gold instrument, contract size and account-currency conversion; 5 price units is not necessarily $5 of position risk.
The target should reflect the actual fill if the experiment claims 2R from entry. A gap between signal and execution can otherwise change the ratio materially.
A Useful Baseline Without Pretending to Recreate the Tools
View Pine Script Backtest Code
The original formulas are not supplied. An independent experiment can still investigate the architecture using two ordinary Supertrends on the chart timeframe and an ATR-normalized distance from an EMA as a momentum proxy.
This code tests one objective interpretation of the source’s concept. Mechanical definitions introduced here are ours and are not necessarily the creator’s exact rules.
| Layer | Rule |
|---|---|
| Source architecture | Fresh short-term trigger agrees with slower bias, then passes a directional filter. |
| Our definitions | Supertrend factors 2 and 4 with ATR length 10; momentum is distance from EMA 200 divided by ATR 14. |
| Our execution | Completed signal, subsequent market fill, 1.5-ATR stop distance, 2R target and 30-bar time exit. |
| Shortcuts | Same chart timeframe, ordinary candles, fixed quantity, no original Range Oscillator or Auto MTF logic. |
What This Code Actually Tests
A fast Supertrend direction change creates a fresh trigger. Its direction must match the slower Supertrend, and the optional EMA-distance filter must exceed the positive or negative threshold. Neutral readings are excluded. The proxy’s units are ATR distances, not the original oscillator’s +100/−100 scale.
Orders are submitted after completed signals and normally fill at the following bar’s open. Signal-time ATR fixes the stop distance in ticks. Relative brackets are submitted with the entry and measured from its simulated fill. Tick rounding can slightly change the target ratio.
One position is allowed at a time. Signals while invested are ignored, and later signals do not alter the existing bracket. A time exit is requested after the holding threshold and normally fills on the next available tick.
What This Code Does Not Test
It does not reproduce the named scripts, Heikin Ashi calculations, Auto MTF selection, heat/touch rules, swing-based stops or the particular gold trades. It tests a deliberately different mechanical system inspired by the staged workflow. A positive proxy result would not verify the original indicators.
Execution Review
Use ordinary candles so chart prices represent the intended fill series. Fixed quantity is exposure, not fixed equity risk. The illustrative cost assumptions are 0.01% commission per order and one tick slippage, adjustable in Properties. Financing, spread variation and contract-specific fees require separate treatment.
Bar Magnifier is enabled, but coverage and emulator assumptions still affect same-bar stop/target outcomes. Gap exits can exceed the planned distance. This baseline uses no higher-time-frame data and avoids fill recalculation, reducing timing complexity without recreating the original workflow.
Validation status: This script has not been compiled in TradingView or run against historical data here. No performance results are claimed.
Backtest Lab
| Question | Change | Keep fixed |
|---|---|---|
| Does the proxy filter help? | Momentum filter off versus on. | Both Supertrends, exits, costs and sample. |
| How selective should momentum be? | Threshold 0.5, 1, 1.5 ATR. | Signal definition and position quantity. |
| Does slower bias matter? | Slow factor 3, 4, 5. | Fast factor, filter and management. |
Compare trade count, expectancy, drawdown and holding time across untouched periods. Record skipped signals as well as trades: a selective filter can improve per-trade statistics while excluding profitable opportunities.
Try It Yourself
For ten signals, record long-term direction, whether the short-term event is new, and the oscillator state before revealing the outcome. Classify each rejection by its first failed stage. This checks whether the rules can be applied consistently without relying on attractive hindsight examples.
Check your understanding: Can oscillator strength override line disagreement? Not under the described method. Does green guarantee a profitable buy? No. Are two aligned states a fresh trigger? Only if the required signal event has occurred. Does the proxy reproduce the Range Oscillator? No; it answers a narrower architectural question.
Final Takeaway
The source separates direction, timing and permission. That is a useful decision structure, but its value depends on the exact signal definitions and actual execution. The next useful question is whether a directional filter adds value to an otherwise unchanged signal system after costs.
