How to use this calculator
Adjust the inputs to your own scenario, then review the result alongside the assumptions below. The $ symbol is a currency label; the tool does not convert exchange rates.
Worked example
A $11,000 peak falling to $8,800 is a 20% maximum drawdown; recovery to $11,000 ends the underwater interval.
The formula
Drawdown = 1 − equity ÷ running peak. Duration spans peak date to recovery date or final observation for ongoing drawdowns.
What the result means
Compare the output with the stated assumptions. Changing an input changes the arithmetic; it does not establish how a real trade or investment will perform.
Assumptions and limitations
Calendar days and observed dates only; gaps in observations can hide deeper drawdowns. Deposits/withdrawals distort an unadjusted curve. Reports longest underwater interval separately from the duration of the deepest drawdown.
Common questions
What does this calculation include?
Calendar days and observed dates only; gaps in observations can hide deeper drawdowns. Deposits/withdrawals distort an unadjusted curve. Reports longest underwater interval separately from the duration of the deepest drawdown.
Are the example inputs recommendations?
No. The defaults are worked examples. Enter values appropriate to your own calculation; outputs are estimates rather than forecasts.
